What is this?
Neuromodulator injections, also known as botulinum toxin (Botox), are another way to prevent the signs of aging visible on your face. The injections mainly aim to restore a relaxed and youthful appearance to the face.
These neuromodulators work by relaxing the body's motor nerves. In other words, the neuromodulator slows down motor skills by reducing the contraction capacity of certain targeted muscles. As the muscles no longer contract as intensely following injection treatments, the development of permanent wrinkles is systematically reduced.
Did you know: We call neuromodulators “ Botox ” since it is the most commonly known neuromodulator company. It's the same principle as calling cotton swabs "Q-Tips"!
Possible treatments
With repetition, certain facial movements such as frowning, blinking and wrinkling the nose strengthen the muscles they use. These muscular activities cause the skin to wrinkle, which causes microtrauma which is the cause of expression lines. Examples of this include crow's feet, forehead lines, and lines between the eyes.
Neuromodulators are mainly used in the upper face to treat, for example, crow's feet (wrinkles around the eyes), the glabella (frown lines), and expression lines on the forehead. These injections will allow the face to regain a relaxed and rejuvenated appearance. The injection of neuromodulators is also a solution to eliminate wrinkles around the mouth such as smoker's lines as well as orange peel skin on the chin.
Beyond the treatment of wrinkles already in place, neuromodulator injections can be used to prevent the appearance of wrinkles or to stop their development.
Rapid treatment, without convalescence
The treatment is quick and painless. Its duration is 15 to 30 minutes and does not require any convalescence. It allows, in fact, a return to your normal activities immediately afterwards. The doctor injects small amounts of neuromodulators into the muscle. Its effect, although often noticeable 72 hours after treatment, reaches its peak 10 days later. Injections should be spaced about three months apart.
